The surgical inpatient unit includes a general acute care area as well as Intermediate Care Environment (Ice) room for children who require closer monitoring and an advanced level of nursing care.
Parents or legal guardians are allowed at bedside 24 hours per day; there are no scheduled visiting hours. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay through the night; however we cannot always provide sleeping accommodations due to limited space. For more information, speak with your nurse or the charge nurse and we can connect you with a member of our Social Work team if required.
All other visitors require permission by parents or legal guardians of our patients. Families and visitors are required to check in at the front desk when entering the unit, identifying themselves and the patient they’d like to see. Children are welcome to visit if they are with a responsible adult until 8pm.
For your child’s safety we prefer only two visitors at the bedside at any time; however, exceptions may be approved by a manager or charge nurse.
Hand washing is required upon entry and exit of the unit, and before and after use of the kitchen area.
Family members or anyone with a fever, cough, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, or a communicable disease (like chickenpox) should not visit our unit.
