What to Expect

Appointments are normally scheduled overnight but day studies may be arranged upon request.

The Level I PSG Test Procedure

  1. The technologist will show you to your assigned room, each with a bariatric sized bed and washroom. They will collect your forms and provide you with sleep wear.
  2. The sleep technologist will then ask a few questions regarding your sleep history and apply the electrodes and sensors required for testing. If you have any allergies, concerns, or questions about the process, please ask your technologist.
  3. You will be monitored continuously through the night. If you require assistance or need to get up to use the washroom, you can call out, and the technologist will come disconnect you.
  4. A treatment portion of the study may be conducted where oxygen or a CPAP mask is applied.
  5. The technologist will then wake you up in the morning and disconnect all the wires and probes. Patients are encouraged to shower when they return home to clean the adhesive residue left on the skin and hair.

Going Home

  • Patients will be discharged and can drive home after their test.
  • Results will be available approximately within 4 weeks following testing and will be reviewed with the patient by the referring specialist.
