Accessibility

Wheelchairs
Public wheelchairs depots are situated at the main entrances and parkade entrances to the University of Alberta Hospital. Wheelchairs must be returned to any of the depots when leaving the hospital.

Accessibility Friendly Features
A number of washrooms, elevators, doorways, and designated disabled parking spaces are wheelchair accessible; bariatric wheelchairs may need to request assistance for some locations.

Amenities

Banking
There are three bank machines (RBC, TD Canada Trust and CIBC) located on the main level of the hospital

Kitchenettes
There are small kitchenettes located on each of the patient units that have an ice machine, microwave, toaster and limited fridge space that families can use to support the nutritional needs of their child. All stored food items must be labeled with the patient’s name. Please ask your nurse for patient labels.

Lost and Found
To check for lost items, call Security at 780-407-8347.

Protective Services
Responsible for the safety of patients, staff and visitors.

Newspapers
Complimentary newspapers are delivered by the volunteers to the units each weekday morning.

Out-of-Town Visitors

Accommodations
These venues are all close to the hospital. For more information on local accommodations and special rates for families with family members in hospital, check with a Stollery social worker.

Larga House
Provides accommodations and offers transportation to and from the Stollery for families living in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Outpatient Residence (The University of Alberta Hospital)
The UAH Outpatient Residence can be accessed by families who live outside of Edmonton.

Ronald McDonald House
Families can check if they qualify to stay by contacting the house.

Signature Suites Campus Tower Suite Hotel
Special rates are available to families whose children are in hospital.

Childcare - Sibling Care
Kepler Academy, an educational childcare provider located just inside the College Plaza Professional Building, is proud to partner with the Stollery Children’s Hospital to provide designated childcare spots for exclusive use of families at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. This is a flexible childcare service so families can tend to their child in the hospital, while knowing that their other child (or children) are safe, in an enriching environment and having fun exploring. Kepler’s Team is committed to learning, developing and growing their capacity to support the sensitive needs of Stollery Families. Families are able to access Kepler Academy’s childcare services through Stollery Social Workers.

Quiet Spaces

The Family Room (4H2.02)
Located in the main corridor on Level 4. It is a place to relax and offers phone, photocopier, fax, Internet and computer access for personal use. It is also a resource centre for information on childhood diseases, conditions and procedures, and local events and services.

McMullen Art Gallery
A free art gallery Located on the main floor, next to the 112th street main entrance of the hospital. The Drop in Studio program in the McMullen Gallery is one of the many Friends Arts in Healthcare initiatives that enrich the hospital with artistic activities. Each week on Thursday, from 2:00p.m. – 4:00 p.m., guest artists lead free workshops where participants of all ages are able to drop in and casually participate and learn new creative skills. Patients, hospital staff, and members of the public come in to do activities such as: pastel drawing, sun-print photography, collage or self-portraiture.

Healing Garden
Located on the 4th floor of the Mazankowsi Alberta Heart Insitute, The Guru Nanak Healing Garden is one of the South Asian community’s largest gifts to the city of Edmonton. The 4,000 square foot indoor garden space incorporates 5 elements to improve the healing process for patients: wood (which embodies growth), water (life), earth (sustainability), metal (strength) and fire (energy).

4th Floor Atrium
The 4th Floor Atrium is a large lounge located near Unit 4A on Level 4 next to the library. The atrium is equipped with seating among plants, vending machines, and a piano.

Library
Located in the 4th Floor Atrium, library hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; however, hours are dependent upon volunteer availability.

Retail & Food Services

Trendz Express
Located on the main level of the hospital near the 114th street north entrance and on the main level of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.

Mr. Sub
Located on the main level of the hospital near the 114th street north entrance

Vending Machines
Vending machines are available beside the entrance to the cafeteria, and in the Emergency Department on the main level. They offer a selection of beverages and light snacks.

112th Street Grill Snack Bar
Located on the main level of the hospital near the 114th street between the north and south entrances.

Main Cafeteria
Located on the main level of the hospital offering a full range of hot and cold meals, snacks and beverages.

Café Fantini
Located on the second level of the hospital next to the 114th street pedway offering soups, sandwiches, snacks and beverages. Open Monday to Friday 6:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Pharmacy
A Rexall Pharmacy is located on the main level of the hospital next to the 114th street south entrance and can fill out-patient prescriptions.

Stollery Kids Store
Located on the main floor of the hospital and selling children’s toys, gifts, books and cards since 2001. Stollery Kids Store raises funds through the sale of merchandise to help address priority needs at the Stollery Children's Hospital.

Friends’ Gift Shop
Located on the main floor of the hospital near the 114th street north entrance, the Friends of University Hospitals gift shop sells flowers, reading material, music, persona

Staying Connected

Hearing Impaired Assistance
A TTY machine is available from the Admitting Office directly or the staff on your unit can make the necessary arrangements. Another TTY machine is located at the west (114th Street) entrance.

Language Interpretation
Interpreters speaking many different languages are available to assist you through our multicultural program. The staff on your unit can make the necessary arrangements.

Patient Well Wishes
As part of our support for patient care and comfort, friends and family of inpatients at hospital and health care facilities can send well wishes via email.

Telephones
Cell phones can be used in general public areas but not in all patient care areas. Watch for signs that show where cell phone use is prohibited. To rent an in-room telephone, contact the Hospitality Network at 1-866-223-3686 or 780-412-9266 (pager). Public telephones are available at the entrances to the hospital, and on each of the floors outside of the north glass elevators.

Wireless Internet
Wireless Internet is now accessible to Stollery patients and their families on Units 4C, 4D, 4E and 4F2. To obtain a username and password for the wireless service, please visit the Family Room in 4H2.02 (located in the main corridor, next to the school, on Level 4).
