Public Health Laboratory (ProvLab) prides itself in staying on the leading edge of diagnostic testing and laboratory-based surveillance. Research allows Public Health Laboratory (ProvLab) to embrace innovative technologies so we can rapidly develop and implement new testing and surveillance to deal with emerging and re-emerging public health threats.

Partnership with the university sector is key to fulfilling Public Health Laboratory's (ProvLab) research and development mandate. Our microbiologists and scientists compete for and receive funding for research from external granting agencies, governments and industry.

Research and development establishes best practice approaches, informs policy and evaluates existing programs. Innovation and striving for academic excellence in support of public health is a strategic priority of Public Health Laboratory (ProvLab).
The results of this work are widely communicated through publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
