Dianne and Irving Kipnes Urology Centre

University of Alberta Department of Surgery, Division of Urology

The Division of Urology falls under the Department of Surgery within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Many of the urologists practicing at the Dianne and Irving Kipnes Urology Centre are also actively involved in clinical research studies at the centre. Likewise, residents are expected to participate in a clinical research project each year.

Alberta Prostate Cancer Research Initiative

The Alberta Prostate Cancer Research Initiative (APCaRI) brings together a multi-disciplinary team of prostate cancer scientists, physicians, patients, healthcare employees and an international collaborative network together to positively impact the outcomes and quality of life of those living with prostate cancer by accelerating the translation of new research ideas from the laboratory to the clinic.

Research Studies:

  • Edmonton Prostate Interdisciplinary Cancer Clinic (EPICC) is a collaboration between Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Urology. EPICC provides care to paitents with advanced prostate cancer.

Alberta Innovates

Alberta Innovates builds on the province’s research and technology development strengths in the core sectors of health, environment, energy, food and fibre, and platforms such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology and omics.

Alberta Small Business Innovation and Research Initiative (ASBIRI)

Research Studies:

  • (May 28, 2018) Nanostics Inc., a University of Alberta spin off company, was announced as a challenge recipient that will bring Alberta Innovates, Alberta Cancer Foundation, Dynalife and AHS together to improve diagnostics for prostate cancer in Alberta.
