Remember to bring your child’s Alberta Healthcare card and a piece of photo ID. You may be asked to bring treatment specific items to your appointment.
If your child is booked for an appointment longer than one hour, we recommend that you bring toys, books, tablets, or other sources of entertainment. Have your child wear comfortable clothing and bring along comfort items (such as a favorite blanket or stuffie). Free WiFi is available. You may wish to bring snacks or a packed lunch, but please check with your nurse before giving it to your child.
The pediatric clinical investigation unit (CIU) is located in Oilers Ambulatory Clinic, located on the second floor on the north side of the Stollery Children’s Hospital. From the 112th street entrance walk straight towards the elevators and go to the second floor.
The clinic is located in 2E within the Edmonton Oilers blue and orange painted entrance.
You will need to check in with one of our Clerical staff at the front desk. Once checked in one of our nurses will greet you shortly.
Your child may visit the CIU to have an IV (Intravenous) started, to have blood work or other specimens collected, to take a new medication, to receive laboratory, pharmacy or imaging services, or to participate in a research protocol or procedure. Some of these activities may be new or frightening to you or your child – don’t be afraid to ask questions, we are here help.
If your child is coming to the CIU for blood work or injections, please ask your nurse about the use of Maxilene numbing cream.
