Cancer impacts the lives of Albertans, the healthcare system, our communities and our world. As the number of new cases continues to grow, and as more people survive their diagnoses, we need to prepare Alberta’s cancer system for the future.
The Cancer SCN initiated the development of the Future of Cancer Impact (FOCI) in Alberta and engaged patients, families, Alberta’s scientific and clinical community and other stakeholders in a collaborative effort to stimulate discussion, planning and action around cancer prevention, treatment and supportive care over the next two decades.
Designed for a broad range of stakeholders, the FOCI report provides an updated summary of key cancer statistics, an overview of cancer services in Alberta today, and insight into cancer-related topics, including the cost of cancer care and health equity.
It is intended to serve as both a catalyst and resource to bolster and accelerate Alberta’s drive towards innovation and quality improvement across the entire cancer continuum.
