Who We Are

Knowledge for Change is an expert research, service, and training hub for knowledge translation at Alberta Health Services. Knowledge for Change offers nationally recognized, evidence-based knowledge translation (KT) supports to health research and innovation projects. We serve researchers, clinicians, front-line staff, health care managers, decision- and policy-makers, academics and trainees looking for KT guidance.

Our Services

We provide expertise in:

  • KT strategy development for major and minor grants, quality and innovation initiatives (e.g. KT plans or implementation plans when health systems change is planned.
  • Evidence-based, theory-driven implementation design, including engagement, mid-flight coaching and diagnostics.
  • Facilitation of integrated KT approaches within multi-stakeholder teams, knowledge brokering support.
  • KT capacity-building (KT basics, implementation basics, implementation design, KT plans and content-targeted areas of KT).
  • Knowledge synthesis (qualitative and quantitative approaches, protocol design, scoping, systematic review methods and analysis).
  • Critical appraisal of KT grants and grant sections, panel reviewer expertise.

At Alberta Health Services we use the Canadian Institutes of Clinical Health Research definition of knowledge translation:

“…a dynamic and iterative process that includes synthesis, dissemination, exchange and ethically-sound application of knowledge to improve the health of Canadians, provide more effective health services and products and strengthen the health care system. This process takes place within a complex system of interactions between researchers and knowledge users which may vary in intensity, complexity and level of engagement depending on the nature of the research and the findings as well as the needs of the particular knowledge user.” (CIHR, 2015)

KT expertise is delivered as a shared-service (AHS) or cost-recovery activity.
