Parking lot repairs to begin Sunday at Olds Hospital and Care Centre

August 6, 2021

OLDS – Work to improve the parking lot at the Olds Hospital and Care Centre is set to begin this weekend as part of Alberta Health Services’ (AHS) ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance healthcare facilities across the province.

More than $1.3 million in Infrastructure Maintenance Program (IMP) funding is being invested to repair and resurface the parking lot at the hospital. Work will be completed in phases in order to limit the impact to onsite parking as much as possible.

Phase one, which begins August 8 in the south, or upper portion of the parking lot, is expected to be complete by early September. During this time, designated parking areas will shift, moving patients into spaces in the physician parking area. Visitors to the site will be directed to parking spaces in the staff parking lot, and staff parking will move to street parking only along 57 Avenue.

Once phase one is complete, work will commence in the north, or lower portion of parking lot. Parking access will again shift for patients and visitors, who will be able to once again access parking in the southeast corner. Staff will continue to use street parking.

During this second phase, normal access to the Emergency Department (ED) will be impacted. Temporary access to the ED for patients, visitors and staff will be through the front entrance. EMS and ambulance crews will continue to have quick access to the site.

Onsite traffic flows will have to be rerouted during construction. Signage will be installed on site to help direct patients, visitors and staff. All drivers are asked to please follow posted signage and obey all directions from any construction personnel while on site.

Those using street parking are asked to please be mindful of not blocking driveways or access to private properties adjacent to the hospital. This includes not using parking lots in the Seasons Retirement Communities and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
