Edmonton-area COVID-19 testing moves indoors as cooler weather arrives

October 27, 2020

EDMONTON – With the arrival of winter weather, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is transitioning some COVID-19 testing centres indoors, ensuring the safety of all staff and patients, while maintaining accessibility and efficiency of testing.

In the Edmonton Zone, the drive-thru East Assessment (testing) Centre in Sherwood Park will close on October 30.  Two indoor Assessment Centres will continue to operate in the Edmonton area, and will increase capacity to meet testing demands.

We thank Strathcona County for supporting the East Assessment Centre site, which has processed more than 80,000 Albertans since it first opened March 30th.

COVID-19 testing is offered by appointment only, to eligible Albertans. If you are symptomatic, a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19, or have been linked to a confirmed outbreak of COVID-19, please visit ahs.ca/covid to complete the self-assessment and book your testing appointment.  All locations available to you will be displayed in the online booking tool.  If internet is not available to you, you can instead call 811 and HealthLink staff will book a test appointment for you.

We remind anyone who has booked, but cannot make, a COVID-19 testing appointment to please cancel or change it so someone else can book that spot.  If you booked your spot online and have a confirmation number, go to ahs.ca/mybooking and enter your confirmation number and postal code to make a change or click the link provided in your confirmation email.

Testing is one component of Albertan response to COVID-19; however, to protect yourself, your loved ones and our communities during this pandemic, all Albertans must continue to follow public health measures and recommendations in place to reduce spread of COVID-19. These measures include physical distancing, wearing a non-medical mask, proper hand-washing, and staying home if feeling unwell.  For more information, visit ahs.ca/covid.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
