Workshop teaches teens strategies for coping with anger

January 23, 2017

MEDICINE HAT – Youth ages 13 to 17 are invited to participate in a free, eight-week Alberta Health Services (AHS) workshop that explores healthy ways to express emotions.

Led by AHS facilitators, Embracing Anger provides a group, interactive learning environment where teens will learn how to:

  • Identify and accept their feelings.
  • Resolve conflict and problem-solve.
  • Express their needs in healthy ways.

Sessions focus on common issues that can fuel strong emotions and offer strategies that can benefit youth in a variety of settings. The program also connects participants with others who are experiencing similar challenges. Learning to apply these skills has been proven to increase self-esteem and strengthen personal relationships.

The program is held Mondays starting Feb. 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Addiction and Mental Health office in the Provincial Building, 346 3 St. S.E. Use the 2 St. entrance; the workshop will be held in Room 2. Please call 403-529-3500 to register. Note: There is no group session Feb. 20; sessions will resume the following week.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
