Important changes to visitor parking locations on site

CALGARY – Construction of a new 2,000-stall parking structure to replace the main parking area (Lot 1) at Foothills Medical Centre’s (FMC) main entrance will begin Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016.The new parkade will improve patient and visitor experience at FMC and provide additional parking required to accommodate the construction of the new Calgary Cancer Centre.

Patient and visitor parking will be unavailable in this area during the three-year construction period and the public can now use one of four other parking areas on site:

Parking Office staff and volunteers will be positioned on roadways on-site to direct parkers and assist those arriving by vehicle. Printable maps, parking rates and other information are available at ahs.ca/fmcparking.

During construction, there will be minimal road closure on site. All traffic, other than that accessing the Emergency Department, will be encouraged to enter and exit the site by 16th Ave./West Campus Blvd. Emergency Department traffic will continue to be encouraged to access the most direct route from 29th Street N.W.

In order to give patients and visitors priority access to parking at the FMC site, a number of staff and physicians are now using a temporary 1,200 parking lot adjacent to Alberta Children’s Hospital.

In order to better serve patients and visitors using the alternate parking lots at FMC, a new ‘pay by plate’ system will be in place beginning September 26. This system, similar to the one used by the City of Calgary, requires parkers to enter their license plate number and estimated time in order to pay for parking. This new system will eliminate the need for gates and will improve traffic flow on site.

Public parking rates will not change.
