Former Capital Health Authority executive expenses to be posted to AHS website

April 25, 2014

EDMONTON – The expenses referenced today by Ms. Sheila Weatherill were filed during her time as President and CEO of the former Capital Health Authority, prior to the creation of Alberta Health Services (AHS).

AHS will publicly release the expenses as soon as possible given Ms. Weatherill’s decision to withdraw her appeal to the Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC). The expenses will be posted on AHS’ website. Due to the appeal process, AHS must receive permission from the OIPC before it can release the documents.

The expenses claimed do not reflect the current policies and practices at Alberta Health Services, which has built strong, transparent rules for expenditures and has transparent reporting of executive expenditures. All executive expenses are posted monthly on AHS’ external website.

These changes to AHS’ expense policy support our commitment to accountability, transparency and sound financial stewardship. The expense policy is available at: http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/Policies/ahs-pol-expenses.pdf.

AHS’ new policy took effect in October 2012.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
