$1.2 million donated to Calgary Health Trust in support of Burn Treatment Centre

CALGARY – The Calgary Health Trust is pleased to announce it has received a $1.2 million donation from the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society (CFBTS) that will go towards the Burn Treatment Centre at the Foothills Medical Centre.

“Calgary firefighters are proud to present this cheque to the Calgary Health Trust in support of the Burn Treatment Centre at the Foothills Hospital,” said Ray Musulak, President of the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society. “The work and care provided by this centre has been a driving force in the volunteering and fundraising that we do.”

This donation is the culmination of three years of fundraising and building burn injury awareness by Calgary firefighters and will go towards the purchase of new equipment and improvements to the Burn Treatment Centre.

“Alberta Health Services is honoured to be the ongoing recipient of all of the funds raised by the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society,” said Shawna Syverson, Vice President, Foothills Medical Centre.  “Their hard work helps us to continue to provide the best care possible to the patients at the Burn Treatment Centre.”

“The Burn Treatment Centre provides highly-specialized world-class care and equipment to its patients,” said Don Adamson, former Burn Treatment Centre patient. “I attribute it to donations from the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society which has given millions of dollars. The burn centre staff have used the funds wisely and consequently we have the finest facility, staffed by the best trained burn team in all of Canada.”

Established in 1978 by Calgary firefighters, the Society has now contributed $6.7 million to the Burn Treatment Centre. Proceeds support the burn centre with equipment upgrades, leading-edge technology, supplies for burn survivors, professional development opportunities for staff and many other enhancements.
