October 15 was Global Handwashing Day (GHD) and at Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), clean hands took centre stage.

GHD is a campaign to motivate and mobilize people around the world to improve handwashing habits by washing their hands with soap at critical moments throughout each day. The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness of handwashing with soap or hand sanitizer as a key approach to disease prevention.

“Safe and quality care starts and ends with clean hands,” says FMC Hand Hygiene site lead Anita Frederiksen. “By encouraging awareness among clinicians, we can ensure proper hand hygiene whenever they interact with patients or families.”

At FMC, a booth located at Garden Deli was available to offer staff and physicians all the hand hygiene info they needed.

Every unit at FMC was also requested to complete 25 Hand Hygiene Audits on October 15.
