Temporary closure at Rocky Mountain House Emergency Department

August 29, 2024

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE – Due to an unanticipated gap in physician coverage, the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will experience a temporary closure from Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. to Aug. 30 at 7 a.m.

Efforts to secure alternate coverage continue, though have so far been unsuccessful. In the event the closure is avoided or reduced; the community will be updated.

Nursing staff will remain in the ED to assess any patients who present to the site and refer patients to alternate care facilities in surrounding communities, including the Myron Thompson Health Centre in Sundre, Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, as needed.

EMS will be available to transport patients to other sites as needed.

During this temporary ED closure patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency health-related questions.

All other services at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre will continue to operate as normal during the ED closures. Inpatient units are not affected.

AHS is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
