Jasper business re-entry guidance

August 14, 2024

JASPER — To support business owners returning to Jasper, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has prepared information to guide the safe re-opening of their businesses.

AHS Environmental Public Health has resources available on the AHS 2024 Wildfire Information webpage ahs.ca/wildfire, including the document Reopening Buildings, Homes, and Businesses After a Wildfire.

The document includes guidelines related to personal protection, safe water, safe food, cleaning and sanitizing of surfaces and equipment, and restoration and removal of damaged items required for the safe operation of businesses.

Additional information on operating a business during a boil water advisory and reopening a business after a power loss is available on the Coping with Emergencies webpage.

Businesses governed by the Public Health Act Regulations (including food establishments, childcare facilities, rental properties, swimming pools, personal services businesses etc.) are allowed to re-open without an inspection by following the guidelines outlined in Reopening Buildings, Homes, and Businesses After a Wildfire. Alberta Health Services’ approval inspections are not required and have not been required following wildfires in other municipalities. Public health inspectors will provide inspection support if businesses request during re-opening activities.

If a home or business has been directly affected by wildfire and owners would like to consult with a public health inspector, AHS Environmental Public Health can be contacted by phone at 1-833-476-4743 or online using the Environmental Public Health web portal at https://ephisahs.ahs.ca/create-case. Public health inspectors can provide advice to homeowners; however, they do not normally conduct inspections within private homes.
