Temporary reduction in physician staffing at CRH Emergency Department

July 11, 2024

LETHBRIDGE – The health and safety of Albertans remains our number one priority, and we are committed to ensuring that every Albertan receives the care they need, when and where they need it.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) also values the work our physicians and healthcare teams do in communities across Alberta, and we recognize that many of our physicians are facing pressures. There will be reduced physician staffing at Chinook Regional Hospital (CRH) Emergency Department (ED) due to physician shortages over the months of July and August.

The ED will continue to function normally, and all patients will continue to be seen based on the severity of their medical condition. Some patients with less acute medical conditions may experience longer than normal wait times at the CRH ED, which traditionally has among the shortest wait times in Alberta.

We are committed to supporting recruitment and retention efforts, including in Lethbridge, to ensure patients and families have access to high-quality care. We also continue to aggressively explore options to address any reduced staffing that may exist throughout the summer.

AHS values the work our physicians and healthcare teams do in communities across Alberta.
