LAC LA BICHE — A newly recruited family physician is now practising in at the local healthcare centre and in community, improving access to care for local and area residents.

Dr. Olajide Kolawole, a family medicine physician with enhanced surgical skills in obstetrics, is now practising at the William J. Cadzow-Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre and the Associated Medical Clinic. Along with working at the community clinic, he is supporting the local emergency room, inpatient and outpatient services and long-term care. He will also offer obstetrical services in the coming months.

“Welcoming a new family physician to our local emergency department will not only enhance patient care but also provide vital support and relief to our hard-working healthcare teams,” says Brian Jean, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and MLA for Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche. “It’s a pleasure to welcome Dr. Kolawole and his family to the community.”

Dr. Kolawole is from Osun State, Nigeria, where he received his medical training. He moved to Calgary five years ago and started practising in Lac La Biche last month. He is joined in Lac La Biche by his wife and their two sons. His wife is also a family physician. She is currently moving through the recruitment and assessment requirements for Alberta.

Dr. Jane Ojedokun, Zone Medical Director with the AHS North Zone, says Dr. Kolawole is a great addition to the local care team. “Adding another family physician to the healthcare centre, and specifically the local emergency department, brings much-needed support, enhances patient care, and strengthens our healthcare community,” says Dr. Ojedokun.
