GRANDE PRAIRIE – A newly recruited ophthalmologist is now practising in the city, providing expanded healthcare services to local and area residents.

Dr. Ruchi Saxena is working out of the Crystal Clear Eye Care Clinic, located at 9719 98 Ave., Suite 110, in addition to providing care at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Ophthalmologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of eye-related conditions. Dr. Saxena becomes the fourth ophthalmologist practising in the city. Dr. Saxena can diagnose and treat cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes and retinal tears.

“We are very glad to be welcoming a new ophthalmologist to our team of healthcare professionals in Grande Prairie,” says Ron Wiebe, MLA for Grande Prairie-Wapiti. “I’d like to welcome Dr. Saxena and her family to Grande Prairie.”

“It’s great news to have Dr. Saxena join our community,” says Nolan Dyck, MLA for Grande Prairie. “Her expertise will help the lives of many people. We are fortunate to have another ophthalmologist to expand the excellent healthcare services available in our community.”

Raised in Toronto, Dr. Saxena completed her medical and ophthalmology training in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. After working there and being away from Canada for nearly 30 years, Dr. Saxena says that she and her family were ready to come home.

“I like Grande Prairie. It has a small-town feel. People are friendly here,” says Dr. Saxena, who moved here with her husband and their three sons.

“Dr. Saxena’s skill and expertise will improve access to ophthalmology services for Grande Prairie and area residents,” says Dr. Jane Ojedokun, Zone Medical Director with the AHS North Zone.
