ST. PAUL — A newly recruited family physician is now practising in the community, improving access to primary care for local and area residents.

Dr. Amanoshi Eberemu is a family medicine physician who is now practising at the St. Therese - St. Paul Healthcare Centre and the St. Paul Independent Medical Practitioners Clinic. Along with working at the community clinic, he is supporting the local emergency room, inpatient and outpatient services and long-term care. He will also offer obstetrical services in the coming months.

“It is great news to hear Dr. Eberemu is now practising in our community,” says Scott Cyr, MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul “We know his expertise will be much appreciated and a benefit to the community.”

Dr. Eberemu received his medical training in Nigeria. He moved to St. Paul last fall and started practising here earlier this month.

Dr. Kirstie McLelland, Interim Zone Medical Director with the AHS North Zone, says Dr. Eberemu is a great addition to the local care team.

“The arrival of Dr. Eberemu will not only help improve access to local healthcare for local residents but will also improve their overall quality of life.”

Dr. Eberemu is married with children; his wife is a microbiologist. When he’s not working, Dr. Eberemu says he and his family enjoy soccer, lawn tennis, cycling and bowling.

As part of an overall physician recruitment strategy, Alberta Health Services has three physician resource planners in the North Zone who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. These planners work closely with partner organizations, such as the Rural Health Professionals Action Plan, Health Advisory Councils, and local, independent community physician attraction and retention committees.
