AHS camps offer youth hands-on healthcare experience

June 28, 2024

EDMONTON – Applications are now open for Healthcare Career Exploration Days.

Presented by Alberta Health Services (AHS), these one- and two-day camps give incoming Grade 9-12 students the opportunity to try different healthcare techniques, tools and skills with guidance from professionals working in the field. Participants spend the day working directly with AHS employees to learn about the many different careers that exist within the organization, including health professions, trades, IT roles and corporate positions. This is a valuable opportunity for students to interact with healthcare professionals, participate in patient simulation scenarios and get hands-on healthcare experience.

Camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For the two-day camps, students would attend both days.

Approximately 250 spots are available across the province in the following locations:

The cost to attend is $40 per day, which covers lunch, snacks and learning materials. AHS understands financial constraints may pose a challenge for some students. If this fee is a barrier to your participation, please contact youth.careers@ahs.ca to apply for sponsorship.

In alignment with the spirit of reconciliation and calls to action, AHS is waiving registration fees for Indigenous students.

These camps – including an Indigenous Healthcare Career Exploration Day in Calgary – are one way AHS is developing the next generation of healthcare workers.
