Temporary closures at Rocky Mountain House Emergency Department

May 21, 2024

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE – Due to an unanticipated gap in physician coverage, the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will temporarily be closed from 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 to 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 22 and from 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 to 7 a.m. Thursday, May 23.

This temporary closure is a last resort after options to find alternative coverage have been exhausted. In the event the closure is avoided or reduced, the community will be updated.

During the temporary closures, nursing staff will remain in the ED during to assess any patients who present to the site. They will provide first aid where needed and refer patients to alternate care facilities in surrounding communities, including the Myron Thompson Health Centre in Sundre, Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service, and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, as needed.

EMS services are prepared to respond to emergency events and support inter-facility transfers to neighbouring sites.

All other services at the site will continue to operate as normal. Inpatient units are not affected by the temporary ED closure.

We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
