AHS offers resources and support for weight management

EDMONTON — Today is World Obesity Day, and Alberta Health Services (AHS) has free services and resources to help Albertans reach their health and lifestyle goals.

Obesity is a complex chronic disease characterized by abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that impairs health. In Canada, it is a leading cause of Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and cancer. In Alberta, Statistics Canada estimates nearly 200,000 Albertans are living with obesity.
