WABASCA – Wabasca has welcomed two new family medicine physicians in recent months.

Dr. Mohammad Khan began practicing at the Bigstone Wabasca Medical Clinic on May 24. Dr. Glory Chukwuma began practicing at Wabasca-Desmarais Health Care Centre and the Golden Opportunity Medical Clinic on June 28.

Both are accepting new patients. Dr. Khan can be reached at 780-891-3839 and Dr. Chukwuma can be reached at 780-891-3007.

“It’s a pleasure to see new physicians join the community,” says Pat Rehn, MLA for Lesser Slave Lake. “Minister Copping and I are dedicated to seeing this kind of progress in rural Alberta and we will continue to make sure rural Albertans have the access to health care that they deserve.”

Dr. Khan previously worked at Karachi Medical Complex in Pakistan, managing acute and chronic patients in family practice. Dr. Chukwuma comes to Wabasca from EKO Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, where she provided inpatient and outpatient care.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs.

AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
