May 17, 2022

McLENNAN/FALHER — A newly recruited family medicine physician is now accepting patients at two local and area medical clinics.

Dr. Firas Hussein started practising in the community in March. He can be reached through the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre at 780-324-3730, or the Fahler Medical Clinic at 780-837-2275.

“I am very happy to welcome Dr. Hussein to northwestern Alberta,” says Health Minister Jason Copping. “Primary care is an integral part of the healthcare system, and I am thankful for AHS and the local community working together to secure Dr. Hussein’s sponsorship. With his arrival, families in the area will now have more access to the healthcare services they need. Alberta’s government is proud to support opportunities such as these, with $90 million in Budget 2022 dedicated to rural recruitment and retention efforts.”

Rural Initiatives and Engagement is a priority for Alberta Health Services (AHS). The organization continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
