ELK POINT — Local and area residents now have improved access to primary care with the recruitment of a new family physician.

Dr. Chinedu Ebisike is now practising at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre and his clinic, 5334 50 Ave. He is accepting new patients and can be reached at the clinic, 780-724-3500, or the healthcare centre, 780-724-3847. Dr. Ebisike’s recruitment brings the number of permanent physicians working in Elk Point to three.

“Each time a physician chooses to work in a rural town, it means a lot to the people who live there,” says David Hanson, MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul. “Rural medicine is a fantastic choice for a family doctor who wants to make a real difference in the lives of not just patients but the entire community.”

Dr. Ebisike comes to AHS from Trinidad, where he worked in emergency departments as well as general medical clinics, providing family medicine outpatient clinical care.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs.

AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
