Local ED temporarily closes following power disruption

April 20, 2021

LAC LA BICHE — The emergency department (ED) at the William J. Cadzow Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre is temporarily closed due to a power disruption.

Alberta Health Services is working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this temporary closure.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS calls will be re-routed to nearby healthcare facilities

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.

The healthcare centre is currently on emergency power provided by portable generators.

Full power is expected to be restored at approximately 1 p.m. today.

Patient care is AHS’ priority and all is being done to ensure patients receive the care they need when they need it. Procedures and protocols are in place to cope with situations such as power disruptions.

Outpatients with appointments at the local healthcare centre will be contacted to reschedule.

AHS is thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
