Remember to bring your Alberta Healthcare card and a piece of photo ID. You will also need to bring a medication list including drug name, dosage and how often you take it.
Wear loose-fitting clothing to make it easier for the doctor to examine you. Short sleeve tops are best so that the nurse can check your blood pressure.
Child care is not provided during you clinic appointment
There is a cost for parking, refer to the parking map for rates.
The Northern Alberta Adult Congenital Heart clinic is located in 2A7 in the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (Maz).
From the east parkade, take the 2nd level pedway towards the Maz, pass the information desk and turn right into the 2A7 waiting room where you can check at one of the registration desks. From the Health Sciences/Jubilee LRT station, take the escalator upstairs and use the second level pedway to cross 114th street to enter the University of Alberta Hospital. Head straight past the café and look for the signage to the Maz on your right hand side.
If entering through the main entrance of the Maz on the main floor, turn right and walk towards the elevators. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor, pass the information desk and turn right into the 2A7 waiting room where you can check at one of the registration desks.
Once you arrive at the clinic, check in at the registration desk.
Your appointment can be from 1 to 4 hours depending on what tests are ordered, so please plan accordingly.
Following your tests, you will see a clinic nurse. The nurse will review you heart history with you, including medication you are taking and any symptoms you are having. You will be able to ask questions about any concerns you are having.
After the nurse reviews your history, the cardiologist will see you to clarify any symptoms you are having and examine you.
The cardiologist will talk about the best treatment choices for you and suggest when you will be seen again in follow up, including any tests to be done.
