St. Paul is a welcoming rural hub just northeast of Edmonton – no matter where you’re from. Its famous UFO landing pad bears the following greeting: "The area under the World's First UFO Landing Pad was designated international by the Town of St. Paul as a symbol of our faith that mankind will maintain the outer universe free from national wars and strife. That future travel in space will be safe for all intergalactic beings, all visitors from earth or otherwise are welcome to this territory and to the Town of St. Paul."

Just a short distance east of Edmonton, you’ll find Alberta’s “Lake Country.” The flat prairies, dominated by agricultural crops, give way to gently rolling hills and a landscape dotted with lakes. The Town of St. Paul is situated where the prairies meet lake country, the town itself extending northwest from the northern edge of Upper Therien Lake. In addition to Upper Therien, you can find 14 lakes close by for boating, fishing, or swimming.

The Iron Horse Trail is 300 kilometres of reclaimed railroad now used as a multi-purpose recreational trail. Quads, mountain bikes, horseback riders, and hikers all use the historic trail – and in the winter, snowmobilers, and cross-country skiers too. You can follow the same routes, used first by Indigenous Peoples, fur traders, and eventually the railroad into the heart of northeast Alberta—through parkland, boreal forest, wetlands, and sand dunes.

Various museums and monuments commemorate the area’s history, with more modern recreational facilities in town. There are 16 parks and green spaces throughout St. Paul, with the largest, Lagasse Park, home to a splash park, two playgrounds, and walking trails, plus an outdoor fitness centre and basketball court. The St. Paul Aquatic Centre hosts Aqua-size classes and swimming lessons for all ages, plus the Barracudas competitive swim club. Take in the art at the St. Paul Visual Arts Centre, or have a celebratory dinner at locally-sourced, seasonally-inspired restaurants. There’s a full calendar of community events, as well as sports leagues, social clubs, and community organizations to join.
