Remember to bring your child’s Alberta Healthcare card and a piece of photo ID.
The Audiology clinic is located in room 1G1.11 on the main floor of the Stollery Children’s Hospital. From the 112 Street main entrance walk down the hall to the left of the escalators; clinic entrance will be on the right hand side.
Appointments are made for one child/patient. It is important for the test booth to be quiet and distraction free for the child’s hearing test. If you bring the patient’s siblings to the test, also bring along a helper to mind the other children during the hearing test appointment.
Hearing test 6 months and older
Appointments are made typically for one hour. Children are tested in a sound room that is very quiet for the entire test period. The child may sit on your lap for the assessment or if older can sit in a small chair for the test proceedings. Older children can do the test without the parent present in the test room.
Auditory Brainstem Response testing
You may be in the clinic for several hours, so please come prepared. Testing is performed while the baby is asleep in a quiet room with low lighting. Babies are ideally assessed at 3-5 months of age. Babies older than these preferred age ranges are often more difficult to settle in an unfamiliar environment.
Please bring your baby tired and ready to sleep (not asleep). Appointments have been arranged to allow for settling to occur during the allocated appointment time.
