Emergency department temporarily closed at Consort Hospital

January 13, 2022

CONSORT – The Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department (ED) will be temporarily closed beginning January 13, 2022 due to staffing challenges.

Patients presenting to the ED during regular operating hours – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday – will be referred to emergency departments in surrounding communities as needed, or to the local medical clinic for follow up with a family physician depending on their needs.

Patients requiring emergency medical care during this time are asked to call 911. EMS calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities, including the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre.

This closure is a temporary measure due to staffing challenges related to a COVID-19 outbreak declared January 12, 2022 in the site’s long-term care (LTC) unit.  As the Consort Hospital and Care Centre provides both LTC and acute care services, staff are shared between units to provide care.

To help prevent further spread of illness, and to avoid having to relocate LTC residents, staffing resources will be dedicated to the LTC unit at this time.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
