Visiting hours are flexible, allowing loved ones to visit based on the discretion of the unit staff.
Hand washing is required upon entry and exit of the unit, and before and after use of the kitchen area.
Anyone with a fever, cough, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, or a communicable disease (like chickenpox) should not visit our unit.
The Cardiology Inpatient Unit is located on 5A5 and 5A6 in the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (Maz). From the east parkade, take the 2nd level pedway towards the Maz, turn right before the information desk and take the elevator to the 5th floor. Once off the elevator, turn right, and then take another left towards 5A6.
From the Health Sciences/Jubilee LRT station, take the escalator upstairs and use the second level pedway to cross 114th street to enter the University of Alberta Hospital. Head straight past the café and look for the signage to the Maz on your right hand side.
If entering through the main entrance of the Maz on the main floor, turn right and walk towards the elevators. Take the elevator to the 5th floor.
The Cardiology healthcare team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, nursing, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, speech language pathologists, and pharmacist. A social worker is available to work through difficult decisions or stressors that you or your family may have during your stay. There are two unit managers available Monday through Friday to discuss your care and answer any questions you and your support person may have. The healthcare team will make daily rounds, beginning at 9:00 am, to see each patient on the Cardiology Inpatient Unit.
Upon your admission, your healthcare team will begin to work with you and your support system to develop a discharge plan, ensuring a return to the healthiest living situation.
We are committed to patient and family centered care. You and your loved ones will be treated with dignity and respect in safe, collaborative environment that focuses on your wellness needs.
