Forzani & MacPhail Colon Cancer Screening Centre

Services Provided

Our Guidelines

CCSC provides colon cancer screening, including colonoscopy, to asymptomatic individuals at average or increased risk of colon cancer. It also provides diagnostic colonoscopy to otherwise asymptomatic patients with a positive screening FIT. As a non-hospital facility, CCSC can only accommodate generally healthy individuals who would be at low risk for undergoing a colonoscopy under conscious sedation.

Services we are unable to provide

  1. CCSC does not provide diagnostic colonoscopy for a positive FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) when the test was performed:
      • Outside of the recommended screening age group (50-75 years)
      • For the investigation of GI symptoms, or
      • Within three years of a colonoscopy
  2. CCSC does not provide specialist consultation or diagnostic colonoscopy for the evaluation of new or concerning GI symptoms, abnormal physical findings, such as a rectal mass, or for iron deficiency
    anemia.

In these situations, patients should be referred to a GI Central Triage or directly to a community gastroenterologist or colorectal surgeon.
