Q1: How often are new jobs posted?
A1: New jobs are posted as vacancies become available. Check our Job Board frequently or set up a job search agent and we will email those jobs to you!
Q2: How can I narrow down the number of results in my job search?
A2: Searching by job title, keyword, requisition number or entering a specific location can help limit the number of results you receive.
Q3: There are no job results in the location I chose, now what?
A3: Consider increasing your search radius. There might be a position nearby that matches what you are looking for. You can easily increase your search radius by 10, 25, 50, or 100 km.
Q4: There is a great opportunity available but it’s not in the area I currently live. Do you offer relocation assistance?
A4: Relocation assistance may be offered depending upon the level and type of position at management discretion. Details on our relocation offering may be requested at the time of the interview.
Q1: Why do employees need a Criminal Record Check?
A1: AHS has a legal responsibility to ensure that every person who works for AHS providing care or support services to patients/clients provides a criminal record check as indicated in the Alberta Protection for Persons in Care Act (PPCA). Additionally, all employees are required to provide a criminal record check per the AHS Security Screening Procedure #1161. You can apply for a criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search at your local law enforcement office.
Important Note: The criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search must be specific to the role at AHS and must be dated no more than 90 days prior to the date on your written offer from AHS.
Q2: What does FTE mean?
A2: Full Time Equivalency, or FTE, defines the position as a percentage of a full-time job.
For example if a full-time position (1.00 FTE) works 80 hours bi-weekly, a 0.50 FTE would work 40 hours bi-weekly or 50% of the full-time position. And a 0.25 FTE would work 20 hours bi-weekly or 25% of the full-time position.
Q3: What is BLS-HCP Training?
A3: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) training is required for specific positions in AHS. An annual renewal program is offered to all employees who work in positions with this requirement. To participate in the AHS renewal program, your BLS certification must be provided by Heart and Stroke. You can learn more about BLS HCP courses and you can find training locations.
Q4: What are the health care regulations or licensing in Alberta?
A4: If you are a health-care professional wanting to work in our province, you need to be licensed or registered with the Alberta regulatory college for your profession. A Regulatory Colleges directory is available from Alberta Health.
Q1: How can i submit my resume?
A1: AHS only accepts applications received through our online job board. You can easily search for jobs and create your candidate profile to get started.
Q2: How do I apply for a job?
A2: Once you've found a job simply click Apply and complete the application process. If it’s your first time applying with AHS you will be asked to create your Candidate Profile.
Q3: What if I miss the application deadline?
A3: Late applications are not accepted. Make sure to submit your application before 11:59 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on the day the posting closes.
Q4: Can I use the same application for multiple job postings?
A4: No, you must apply to each job posting separately.
Q5: Can I submit my resume without applying for a specific job?
A5: Yes! You can join our talent community by completing your general candidate profile and uploading your resume. We may contact you from time to time about jobs that match your skills. You can also set up a job alert to be notified when new positions that match your criteria are posted on our website.
Q6: What if I don’t have a resume?
A6: No resume? No problem. You can manually enter your information to create a resume within our system. Or, you can download your information using your LinkedIn profile.
Q7: Is a cover letter required?
A7: A cover letter is optional. However, we encourage you to include a tailored cover letter that compliments and supports your resume for each job application.
Q8: What is an eSignature?
A8: When you are finishing your online application you will be asked to provide an eSignature. An eSignature is your certification that the information stated in the application is true and complete and acknowledgement that you understand that any false statements may be grounds for termination of employment in the future.
Q9: Will my privacy be protected when I submit my application?
A9: AHS values and safeguards each person's right to privacy. AHS will not collect, use or disclose personal or health information in any manner that is not in keeping with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or the Health Information Act. When you submit your application, your personal information will be used for the specific purpose of recruitment and hiring.
Q10: How do I know that the manager received my resume?
A10: You will receive an on-screen confirmation acknowledging that you have successfully submitted your resume, as well as an email notification. You can also review My Submissions to confirm successful submission of your resume.

Q2: What if I forget my username?
A2: No problem! Visit the Forgotten Username page. Enter email address and click Validate. A Username Retrieval Confirmation will appear and display your username.
Q3: What if I forget my username?
A3: No problem! Visit the Forgot Your Password? page. Enter your username, email address and click OK. An email will be sent to you containing your password.
Q4: What is a candidate profile?
A4: A candidate profile is an online resume that you use to apply for AHS career opportunities. Once created, all you have to do is maintain and update your profile. Creating a resume profile gives the ability to easily apply for jobs and even sign up to be notified about new jobs by email.
Q5: What are job alerts and how do I sign up for them?
A5: Job alerts are emails that notify you of new jobs posted by AHS that match jobs you may be interested in depending upon the interests and locations you choose when signing up. You can easily sign up for job alerts by hitting the green Sign Up for Job Alerts button on the homepage or,from a mobile device, on any job detail page.
Q6: Where can I see a history of jobs that I have applied for?
A6: You can track your opportunities by hitting the My Submissions button on any page. Once you log in you will see a list of jobs that you have applied for.
Q7: How do I submit Attachments as part of my application?
A7: You can attach files to your Candidate Profile (e.g. cover letter, resume, references, transcripts, etc.). Once a file is attached, you can overwrite it by attaching a file with exactly the same name and extension. You can attach a maximum of 5 files, one at a time. The Relevant Files column allows you to select the files that are relevant to a particular job submission.
Q8: What if I need to update my resume after I have submitted it?
A8: Log in to My Profile and select My Submissions. Find the completed submission you wish to update and select View/Edit Submission. Go to the attachments section and select edit, you can then update any of the attached files. The hiring manager will see the most updated version of your resume or cover letter.
Q9: How can I withdraw my application?
A9: Log in to My Profile and select My Submissions. Find the completed submission you wish to update and select Withdraw. You will see a warning confirming you are about to withdraw your job submission. Indicate your reason and select Yes. You will now see the position listed under Withdrawn Submissions on the My Submissions Page.
Q10: Help! I accidently withdrew my application, how do I re-apply?
A10: Stay calm! If the job status is: Active (Accepting Job Submissions) you can easily fix this and re-apply. Log in and find the position listed under Withdrawn Submissions on the My Submissions Page. Select the Re-apply link listed below. You will be taken to the Review and Submit page to verify your application. If everything looks okay, select Re-Apply at the bottom. You will see the confirmation page and your submission will now show under Completed Submissions again.
Q1: Do you hire internationally-educated health-care professionals?
A1: We welcome internationally-educated health-care professionals who are legally entitled to work in Canada and are licensed or registered to practice in the province of Alberta. For more information, visit our International Applicant page.
Q2: My qualifications are from another country, will you accept them?
A2: The International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQA) assesses international education credentials and compares educational standards in Canada. With an IQAS assessment, the hiring manager will be in a better position to make decisions related to international education credentials.

Q6: How do I know if a job offer is legitimate?
A6: Please be aware that Alberta Health Services never requests fees, endorses training through third-parties or directly hires applicants without a screening process. Q1: How long does it take to receive a response for an interview?
A1: We strive to connect with candidates within 10 business days from the requisition closing date. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
Q1: Does AHS hire students?
A1: Yes! AHS hires students who are 16 years of age and older and who meet the qualifications listed on the job posting. Opportunities are posted to the AHS online job board and on the Students/Residents page.
Q2: How Do I find Co-op Student opportunities?
A2: To search for current co-op job postings visit the AHS online job board and use keywords co-op or students or select Students/Residents from the Job Category list.
Q3: How do I find Undergrad Nursing opportunities?
A3: To search for current Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) job postings visit the AHS online job board and use keywords UNE.
Q4: I don’t see any jobs for students, now what?
A4: Let us help you with your search. You can set up a Job Alert, using the Student/Residents job category. We will send job posting notices to your email automatically when new student positions are posted.

Q6: Does AHS support high school Work Experience?
A6: Absolutely! You can earn credits toward your high school diploma through Work Experience 15, 25, & 35 courses. This is a great way to explore careers at AHS and find the right fit for you! Your school guidance counselor would be able to supply you with more information on this opportunity.
Q7: How many Work Experience credits can I earn?
A7: The number of credits available depends on the amount of time you plan to commit to your work experience. Each credit requires 25 hours of work experience and each course is worth between 3 and 10 credits.
Q8: I’m not in high school, are there any opportunities for me?
A8: Take Our Kids To Work™ Day occurs each year on the first Wednesday of November. This is an opportunity for Grade 9 students to watch their parent, or an approved employee host, in their work environment at AHS. There of the numerous interesting and rewarding careers available in healthcare services.
Job Shadowing is a temporary, non-paid career exploration opportunity for both youth and adults to spend a day observing an AHS employee within their role. It is up to individual managers to determine if they will allow job shadowing to proceed on their unit/in their program.
Q9: How do I apply for a Clinical Placement?
A9: If you are enrolled with an accredited Canadian educational institution, your request for a clinical placement with AHS should originate from your school.
Q10: I’m studying at an educational institution outside of Canada, can I complete a placement at AHS?
A10: Yes, however, priority will be given to students enrolled in Canadian Educational Institutions and Canadians studying abroad.
Q11: How do I apply for a Non-Clinical Placement?
A11: When requesting a non-clinical practicum, you or your placement coordinator will need to complete the Non-Clinical Placement Request Form and the Basic Student Consent form and submit them to Student Engagement.
