Ponoka Emergency Department to remain open overnight

June 12, 2024

Gap in physician coverage has now been filled

PONOKA – The Emergency Department (ED) at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre will remain open and fully operational today after alternative physician coverage has been successfully secured.

A previously identified gap in physician coverage from 5 p.m. today, June 12, until 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 13 has been filled.

When gaps in physician coverage are identified, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has processes in place to seek alternative coverage to avoid disruptions to services. Efforts remain ongoing to minimize disruptions as much as possible. AHS is grateful for the support of local and locum physicians, as well as our hospital staff who have helped minimize this temporary disruption.

Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
