ELK POINT — Local and area residents have greater access to care with a new family physician arriving in the community.

Dr. Olivia Fasola is providing care at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre and practising out of the Elk Point and District Medical Clinic. Her arrival will provide more stability for physician coverage of the emergency department at the Elk Point Healthcare Centre.

“It’s heartening to see family physicians choosing to practice in northern Alberta where there’s so much need for them,” says David Hanson, MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul. “Primary care plays a crucial role in keeping Albertans healthy, and Dr. Fasola’s arrival will support local and area families who are looking for the many services provided by family physicians.”

Alberta Health Services (AHS) continues to recruit for family physicians across northern Alberta to meet community needs.

AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician attraction and retention committees.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
