The Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department to temporarily close Sept. 24

September 23, 2021

CONSORT — The Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department (ED) will be temporarily without physician coverage on Sept. 24.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time, and to keep all other services at the site operating as normal. Inpatient units are not impacted by this closure.

Nursing staff will remain in the ED to assess patients presenting to the department, with phone consults available from the on-call physician in the Coronation ED as needed. Patients may be referred to emergency departments or other health facilities in surrounding communities depending on their needs.

Patients requiring emergency medical care during this time are asked to call 911. EMS calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities, including the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre.

During this time, the medical clinic at the Consort Hospital and Care Centre will also be closed and unavailable for new appointments. Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.

AHS will continue efforts to bring in locum coverage over the coming days to minimize the closure.

Local ED services are expected to resume Monday (Sept. 27).

AHS would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time. AHS is thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff as well to help ensure that those who need care continue to have access to it, even if that requires getting that care at a neighbouring community.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta.
