Temporary Optional Payment Structure for COVID-19 Redeployment

A temporary and optional remuneration arrangement is now available to physicians who offer to work in prioritized redeployment roles as part of the COVID-19 response. This will assist AHS’ efforts to support temporary staffing changes, which will ensure the availability of physicians in areas of greatest need.

Physicians who volunteer to be redeployed in priority clinical areas during the COVID-19 response can opt in to a flat sessional rate of $220/hr clinical Alternate Relationship Plan (ARP) in lieu of fee for service. As temporary prioritized COVID-response roles are confirmed, the ARP option will be offered. Alternatively, physicians can bill fee for service as they usually do following the Schedule of Medical Benefits, or remain in their existing Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) or clinical Alternative Relationship Plan (ARP) compensation structure.

Physician redeployment will be based on service priorities determined through a consistent, province-wide approach that reflects the needs of patients in each zone.
