Metabolic Genetics

Provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and education to individuals and their families with inherited metabolic disorders.

Provides life-long management of metabolic disorders for infants, children and adults.

Participate in education, training and research and collaborates with other centres and programs to foster leadership and excellence in this field.

A metabolic geneticist is on call 24 / 7 in Calgary and Edmonton.

dietitians, genetic counsellors, medical geneticists, pharmacists, registered nurses (RNs), social workers
Eligibility

Suspicion of an Inherited Metabolic Disorder (IMD) may be considered for one or more of the following reasons:

  • positive newborn screen result
  • suggestive clinical presentation
  • suggestive laboratory results
  • suggestive diagnostic imaging findings
  • family history of a confirmed IMD in a close relative
