Geriatric Perioperative Complex Assessment Clinic

Making sure each person gets the right care before, during, and after surgery. We'll check for any possible problems like heart or breathing issues, confusion, or slow recovery. Our goal is to help people feel better and live healthier lives after surgery.

We'll also look at existing health conditions like heart failure or cirrhosis and find ways to make surgery safer for those conditions. We'll help by making sure medicines are used correctly. And we'll give treatments before surgery to make sure everything goes well during and after it. If you're 50 or older and need surgery, or if you're thinking about surgery but want to know more first, we're here to help you decide.

We can help with:

  • Checking your heart, lungs, and overall health to see how safe surgery might be for you
  • Checking how well you remember things and finding ways to help you think clearly after surgery
  • Checking how strong and healthy you are for surgery and helping you get ready if needed
  • Making sure any other health problems you have, like heart issues or Parkinson's, are as under control as possible before surgery
  • Making sure the medicines you're taking are right for you before surgery
  • Helping you quit smoking, get stronger with exercises before surgery, or eat better for a healthier recovery
  • Figuring out if there might be any delays in getting better after surgery or going home
  • Talking about what you want from your treatment and care. (Goals of Care discussions)
