Cardiac Neuromuscular Clinic

This clinic specializes in cardiac disease, a common clinical manifestation of neuromuscular disorders, particularly with diagnosed muscular dystrophies.

Provides cardiac surveillance, timely management, and support for patients with neuromuscular disorders and the cardiac complications of this diagnosis.

  • monitoring of cardiac status via diagnostics and comprehensive physical assessment
  • management of cardiac complications and the physical symptoms common to people living with neuromuscular disorders as they age
  • medical and psychosocial support of patients and their family with a dedicated nurse clinician and social worker

Service Providers May Include
cardiologists, cardiology technologists, diagnostic sonographers, registered nurses, social workers
Eligibility

Service targeted to:

  • age > 16 years, AND
  • diagnosed with muscular or myotonic dystrophy, OR
  • asymptomatic gene-carrier of muscular or myotonic dystrophy, OR
  • genetic cardiomyopathy that is not served by another specialized cardiac clinic
Service Access

Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral information.

Referral must be faxed to clinic. Service is by appointment only.
