Addiction and Mental Health - Child and Adolescent - Urgent Psychiatry Clinic

The Urgent Clinic provides urgent, short-term psychiatric care for children and youth experiencing a mental health crisis - who do not otherwise have access to psychiatry on an urgent basis - following a presentation to the Stollery Emergency Department or the Crisis Team.

Following a presentation to the Stollery Emergency Department or the Crisis Team, a referral may be made to the Urgent Clinic; referrals are reviewed by the clinical team to determine if Urgent Clinic is the most appropriate service and, if so, the priority of the referral. Urgent Clinic provides:

  • psychiatric consultation & assessment
  • short-term follow-up
  • medication optimization
  • assistance with connection to appropriate community mental health services
  • treatment recommendations to primary care provider
