Obstetrics

Providing prenatal, perinatal, postnatal and surgical obstetrics care for mothers and neonates.

Provides care for pregnant women who are low-risk and more than 36 weeks, which may include:

  • fetal monitoring
  • labour induction
  • non-stress testing
  • epidural
  • C-section surgery (elective, urgent, and emergency)

Cares for babies and provides breastfeeding support if needed.

Go to a community health centre in your area for any prenatal concerns and follow-up after you deliver your baby.

Service Providers May Include
anesthetists,doctors, general practitioners, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), obstetrician-gynecologists, registered nurses (RNs)
Service Access

You may be referred by your physician to the unit for a Non-Stress Test; or induction. If you are in labour, you should present to the admitting desk and register. You will be brought up to the unit and assessed by nurses who will then notify your doctor of your presentation. Your doctor will come and assess you and coordinate your care until you are discharged.
