Building Hope

We’re doing more than building a new hospital. We’re building hope. Hope for a life beyond cancer. Hope for a world without cancer.

Seize the once-in-a-career opportunity to help make it happen. Alberta Health Services is thrilled to announce recruitment for Radiation Oncology certified Medical Physicists, Electronics Service Specialists and Medical Physics Assistants to support pre-installation, commissioning and operationalizing of the all-new, state-of-the-art Calgary Cancer Centre (CCC). Scheduled to open in 2023, the $1.4 billion CCC will be a leading health care facility, academic, and research centre that will provide cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. For more information on the CCC planning, design, and construction, please visit our website.

Medical Physics will receive and commission QA equipment, inspect rooms and support the design-build process, and develop procedures and documentation. Commissioning plans will be developed and completed for all simulators and linacs. Clinical workflows and techniques will be developed to enable all treatment techniques, such as total body irradiation, SRS, SBRT, CNS irradiation and pediatrics, to be transitioned to the new CCC. Staff will support the design and set-up of these radiation medicine information systems and associated applications.

The MR-Linac physics team will work with radiation oncology and radiation therapy to define patient selection criteria, a standardization framework for protocolized treatment, anatomical and functional imaging and adaptive radiotherapy. The physics team will also define commissioning and quality assurance programs, as well as the training and education plan. Medical physicists will work in collaboration with oncologists and therapists to develop MR-based brachytherapy programs. They will train and educate the end users for this program, in addition to defining the quality control program and commissioning plan.

The Department of Medical Physics at TBCC has active teaching and research programs. Our CAMPEP-accredited graduate and residency programs are run through the University of Calgary. Starting dates between April 2021 and January 2022 are available. All postings will be open until filled, and applications will be considered as they are received.
