Preventing Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury (CI-AKI)

Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is a common and expensive complication of cardiovascular procedures, including angiograms and percutaneous coronary intervention. There are accurate ways to identify patients at high risk for developing CI-AKI, and to prevent this complication. This purpose of this provincial initiative is to implement strategies that make it easier to identify high risk patients and prevent contrast induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) in cardiac catheterization labs in Alberta
