Families challenged to ‘Move Your Mood’ this spring

RED DEER – Red Deer families interested in getting active, eating healthy and feeling positive are encouraged to join the Move Your Mood Family Challenge this spring.

Move Your Mood is a healthy lifestyle program for children, youth and families promoting the benefits of physical activity, good nutrition, and improved mental and physical wellness.

The eight-week challenge, running April 22 to June 16, is open to all Red Deer families, who will receive weekly challenges to encourage them to try new things and learn new habits. Once registered, families will receive an information package and will be invited to sign up for free events, including:

  • Skating at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
  • A dodgeball tournament.
  • A Nerf war and swimming at the Collicutt Centre.
  • A yoga class at the Breathing Room.
  • Hiking at Kerry Wood Nature Centre.
  • A Zumba class at the Dawe Centre.
  • A dance party at Wild Horse Market Studio.
  • Ninja Warrior session at Premier Academy Cheerleading & Tumbling.
  • A Helping Kids Grow Up Great asset-building parent workshop.
  • An acro dance class at Dance Magic.

Participants will also receive a 40 per cent discount to the Move Your Mood Family 3-km Fun Run on May 11.

Red Deer Public Schools will also run an additional eight-week Move Your Mood school-based challenge, encouraging students to take part in other scheduled activities and having them evaluate how being active can improve physical and mental health.
