Emergency Department at Misericordia Community Hospital now fully repaired following water leak

September 4, 2018

EDMONTON — The Emergency Department at the Misericordia Community Hospital is fully repaired and all services have returned to their regular operations.

The hospital’s Emergency Department was temporarily closed on August 20th, due to a water leak within the department. Emergency care resumed on August 24th, with a full range of emergency care available in unaffected areas of the Emergency Department and in an adjacent Day Surgery area while repairs were completed. The Surgical Day Ward was temporarily relocated to the fifth floor of the hospital.

Over the long weekend, full remediation of the affected areas of the Emergency Department was completed and services were moved back to their original areas with no disruption to emergency services or patient care. Day Surgery has also moved back to its original space on the main floor.

“Thank you to all the teams across the Edmonton Zone who worked so quickly and diligently together to address this challenging situation,” said Dr. Owen Heisler, Chief Medical Officer, Covenant Health.
