Childhood Growth Measurement

Childhood Growth Monitoring

The Childhood Growth Measurement initiative aims to enhance growth monitoring practices and child health outcomes by ensuring accurate and reliable measurements for infants, children and adolescents (0 - 19 years of age) across all care settings.

Accurate, reliable measurements are fundamental to growth monitoring and to making sound clinical judgments on the appropriateness of a child’s pattern of growth. Three key components for accurate measuring are:

  • regularly calibrated, quality equipment
  • standardized measurement techniques
  • trained, reliable measurers
