Alberta Continuing Care Act Effective April 1, 2024

References to continuing care (including home care, designated supportive living, long term care and hospice) may not reflect the updated language or terms found in the new Alberta Continuing Care Act effective April 1, 2024. Refer to the Continuing Care Glossary for definitions.

Standards are available to assist continuing care providers in developing their services and thoroughly assessing all they do. Standards additionally support the provider’s ongoing quality improvement activities and focus efforts on the essential components of safe and effective care.

Alberta Health Continuing Care Standards

Provincial Standards for accommodation (living environment and housekeeping) and health services are designed to ensure home care, supportive living and long-term care operators provide quality health and accommodation related services to their residents. Audits are conducted to ensure standards are met and provide consultation for quality improvement.

Accreditation Canada

Accreditation Canada uses national standards of excellence to enable organizations to improve the quality and safety of their services. These standards are developed through consultation with expert advisory committees and are based on research and leading practice.

Alberta Public Health Act

Public Health Inspectors operate under this Act to ensure compliance with Food Regulations. Find Individual facilities.

Public Health Surveillance

Public Health Surveillance is the systematic, ongoing collection, analysis and interpretation of data and the timely distribution to public health decision makers. Information may include potential infectious disease outbreaks and threats to public health.
